Prayer—The Senate

Lord,

Today, I pray for the Senate, all 100 Senators, and V.P Kamala Harris. Lord of Heaven’s Armies, I am fighting against all the strategies of the devil[1] and not against flesh-and-blood[2]. The Senate, from its beginning, is to be a body of members who work together, despite differences, for the well-being of the citizens of this country. The enemy has implanted strongholds of false ideologies and arguments in their minds. I pray for your mighty weapons to tear down these strongholds[3]. These strongholds draw lines of battle, dig deep, deep trenches, and cause division among the members. Thick clouds of deep darkness hang heavy over this building built by man. The light of Truth no longer shines upon the floor of the Senate Chamber. Deep darkness spawns anger, fear, and hate, corrupting this honorable Chamber. It causes blindness, deafness, and dumbness. It has crippled this body and it is no longer able to communicate and work together. But you, oh Lord, cause the blind to see the Truth, the deaf to hear the Truth, and the dumb to speak the Truth[4]. Lord, let your irresistible Light shine through the enemy’s darkness of deceit and confusion[5].

And Lord, I pray specifically for Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, and V.P. Kamala Harris. Chuck Schumer has been a Senator for 23 years and Mitch McConnell, 37. The enemy’s strongholds are deeply rooted in the bedrock of their souls.  The walls are thick—built with heavy stones. The towers stand proud, tall, and arrogant. Their storehouses are hidden, fortified, and guarded. They are filled with worldly wealth stockpiled over the years. But Oh Lord, you are mighty and powerful to turn foundations to dust, cause walls to collapse, and bring down even the most prideful and arrogant towers. And what is done in the darkness you reveal in the light. You make the darkest secrets public and expose the cleverest of lies all by the power of your light[6]. Oh Lord, please make it so.

Lord one political party wants to end the filibuster. Doing makes it possible for one party to dominate the Senate and control the voting on every measure that comes before them. This creates a clear path toward the federalization of elections and usurps the right, set out in the Constitution, of States to manage their own elections. Jesus, I thank you for the courage of Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema to stand in opposition to their party’s effort to end the filibuster and change the Senate rules. Senators Manchin and Sinema know it is the correct thing to do and I hold up their arms in prayer and support them on this battlefront[7]. Maintaining the filibuster provides a glimmer of hope that an ember of integrity might still remain in the Senate. Lord, after this battle is won, I will build an altar of remembrance and give you the glory, honor, and praise that belongs to you.

And Lord of Heaven’s Armies we need Senators who love you and your Truth instead of politicians who say and do anything to maintain their grip on power, prestige, and wealth. Using your mighty weapons, I pray to destroy every proud obstacle the enemy is using that keeps Senators, staff, employees, guards, custodians and anyone else working within the Capitol building from knowing you, O’God[8]. In prayer I capture every rebellious thought and teach them to obey Christ. And Lord, any Senator who remains rebellious and disobedient, will receive justice when they seek re-election and not return for another term.

Lord of Heaven’s Armies, I am no Joshua[9] and won’t pretend to be anything more than what you know I am. The walls of Jericho didn’t collapse because of Joshua’s strength and power. Jericho’s walls, towers, and gates collapsed because Joshua had faith and obeyed. Lord, it was you, in your power that brought the walls of Jericho down. And Lord, it is by my faith in your promises and obedience to your word that offer this prayer, today.

In Jesus’ name, Lord of Heaven’s Armies, I pray, Amen.
