Prayer—America #4

Dear Father,

What troubled times we live in! The whole world seems like one of my simmering pots of stew on the stove—what a mess of stuff—at times I’ve put every morsel that’s in the house—and for sure there’s plenty of hot sauce—what a mess—and I eat it all with gratefulness and thanksgiving to you. Maybe the world’s always looked like this to you—from your viewpoint. But, it hasn’t always seemed that way to me. I have never had a means to view the world like I have now. When you began really showing me things around 15 years ago, the means were neither as current nor the pictures as clear—but your message was. With the means available today, the world has become very small, like the globe I used to spin. And almost everyone in the world sees the same goings-on that I see. But our perspectives can be very different.

Father, I don’t know how you feel about this 4th Industrial Revolution or the 3rd Generation of the Internet—the Internet of Things—the IoT. Are they good?—Bad?—or neutral and harmless? I don’t know? What do you think about smart phones, video games, the Metaverse, or all of these smart devices that are getting connected? What are your thoughts on digitalization, Artificial Intelligence, deep machine learning, global surveillance and facial recognition, and what about robots with human-like actions (if only it had a brain)? (big sigh) And then there’s cryptocurrency?. I don’t know the morality of any of these things and I don’t know what your stance is, either. But I can add two plus two and you’ve given me a gift of being able to connect dots. And Father, I don’t believe you are behind any of this.

Lord, I believe we are building another Tower of Babel. The creature believes it’s smarter than its creator. It’s going to make the world a better place. It’s going to create Utopia. But it won’t be Utopia. Because of an unredeemed sin nature, worship of the creation more than the creator, and the greatest manifestation of Satan the world has ever seen, it can never be Utopia. But I know there’s one coming.

One day, and it won’t be long, you, O’ Lord are coming! This Tower of Babel will crumble like the first one. The Earth will be washed clean by the waters of your presence and Heaven will reign on Earth. I don’t know if any of this technology will even exist—it won’t matter one way or the other. The Earth’s wounds will heal and we will live in Utopia and bask in your Glory. We will experience life and relationships, as you intended it to be—for a little while. We will experience a foretaste of what awaits us in Heaven for eternity.

Until then, Lord, there’s much work to be done. I pray you would awaken your children from their slumber while there’s still light. Help us to see what you see. Remind each of us that, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Remind us that we don’t fight for ourselves but we fight for those who are perishing. So, Father, strengthen us and renew our energies to fight with the same fervor as our enemy. Unite us as one: the united forces of the Christian army “marching as to war with the Cross of Jesus going on before”. I pray the old hymn we used to sing in days gone by. echoes within our sanctuaries again, “Onward Christian Soldiers”. Ours end is not won’t to win the war, that’s reserved for you, ours is to live the gospel message, rescue the perishing, and set the captives free, until the day you call us home.

In Jesus name, I pray…
