“National Education Association”

Dear Father in Heaven,

Thank you for America. Thank you for inspiring our forefathers. Thank you for giving them the strength and courage to stand in opposition to the mightiest nation and government in the world, at that time. Thank you for standing with them and helping them to persevere through the terrors of war. And thank you Father for the victory won. Thank you for a nation founded upon your principles and precepts. Thank you for allowing me to live in such a country as this.

Father, that was almost 250 years ago. It saddens me to acknowledge that in the years in between, America has strayed off your path, forgotten your ways, and erected the idols of money means success, personal comfort is best, if it feels good it must be good, truth is relative, outcomes that benefit me are worth whatever it takes, education is the way, and I am my god.

To arrive at this present space and time, America violated your two greatest commandments—commandments on which all the entire Law is based and the Prophets demanded—commandments the Lord Jesus, in obedience, sacrificed himself to fulfill, and stands as a living example for us to reflect: “You must love the Lord your GOD with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.”[1] But, so much of the Church in America has chosen to believe the lies of Satan and chose to pursue the ways of the World. And Satan laughs.  And Holy Righteous Trinity, I’m sure this breaks your heart. We have failed you. Can you forgive us? If we humble ourselves, pray, live in your presence, and quit sinning, will you hear our prayers, forgive us, and heal America?[2] Father, show us what to pray for? Teach us how to pray? Help us find our way back to You? Light the way, Lord, so we don’t stumble?

Thank you, Father, for showing me unseen things. Thank you for shining the light into the darkness so I can see. You have shown me a castle, built on the top of a high mountain. From this lofty position, Satan’s rulers and authorities[3] direct a war. A war Lucifer wages against You, Lord of Heaven’s Armies, your Church, your brothers, and sisters. His strategy is to win the minds of America’s children and turn them against your Church. Today, we are seeing some of the outcomes of this effort. We are seeing more unbelief than ever before. Side-by-side with the unbelief, we are seeing Christianity accused of being an evil religion. We are seeing Christians accused of spreading hate, of being intolerant, and of being “the problem” in America. The Devil’s ally in this effort is the National Education Association—The NEA. Satan uses the NEA to inject false ideologies into the captive minds of our school-age children. As each generation passes through his program of re-education, his army grows larger and stronger. As our children mature and assume their positions of leadership in governments, corporations, organizations, small businesses, and within the workforce, sacrifices of our liberties, rights, and freedoms are laid on Lucifer’s altar—all under the guise of “sacrifices made on behalf of the greater good”. It’s happening, today. We see it, today. Lord, help us? What can we do? What can I do?

Lord, the NEA is a massive organization, rich and powerful, with rich and powerful friends. And who am I? And then, Lord of Heaven’s Armies, you said to me, “It’s not who you are, but who I AM. All I ask of you is to pray and have faith.” Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what should I pray for? And you said to me, “I’ll show you what to pray for. Have faith.” Oh Lord of Heaven’s Armies, I don’t know how to pray for such a giant as this. And you said to me, “I’ll teach you how to pray. Have faith.”

Father, I remember from scripture that “faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see”.[4] And I recall it was by faith—

  • Noah worked on building an ark for 100 years
  • Abraham began a journey into a world he did not know and offered to sacrifice his only son
  • Moses stood face to face against Pharaoh and the waters of the sea parted
  • Joshua crossed the Jordan into enemy territory and walls crumbled
  • Elijah took on the priests of Baal on Mt. Carmel and fire fell from Heaven
  • David stepped onto the battlefield against a giant and a single stone hit the mark and felled a giant
  • And Paul found joy in a Roman prison, bound in chains, awaiting his execution

Lord, I am not one of these great ones of faith. I am weak. I’m not sure I’m up to the task. But, Lord, throughout my lifetime, I’ve learned a few things about You and me. You’ve stood by me through all things and looking back you worked them out for my good, even when they didn’t seem so good at the time.[5] And through it all, I’ve learned to trust and obey. And really, that’s all I have to offer. You already know that. But, I give it all to you. And since you laid this on my heart you will have my best effort and where I lack and fall short, You will take up the slack and pull us through. Your yoke is easy, especially when I lean on You.[6]

Surely, with such examples of faith as these before me, I can have faith to pray for a glorious change to occur within the NEA from top to bottom, or from bottom to top. Lord, over the next several days, weeks, months, or however long it takes, open the eyes of my heart so that I might be enlightened and see things as You see.[7] Expose the weaknesses of this foe. Show me the low-lying fruit and how to pluck it so my faith will grow strong. Perhaps let us know of some victories along the way so we can sing praises to You and glorify Your name. Bless the prayers and faith of this small group gathered here. Strengthen us and encourage us. Increase our numbers if, and as, you will. But, we know our strength is not in numbers— our strength is our faith in You.

                          Psalm 144

Praise the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
            who is my rock.
He trains my hands for war
and gives my fingers skill for battle.
He is my loving ally and my fortress,
my tower of safety, my rescuer.
He is my shield and I take refuge in
He makes the nations submit to me.

O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what are human
beings that you should notice them,
mere mortals, that you should think
            about them?
For they are like a breath of air,
their days are like a passing shadow.

Open the heavens, Lord of Heaven’s
            Armies, and come down.
Touch the mountains so they billow
Hurl your lightning bolts and scatter
            your enemies!
Shoot your arrows and confuse them!
Reach down from heaven and rescue me;
      rescue me from deep waters,
from the power of my enemies.
Their mouths are full of lies;
they swear to tell the truth,
      but they lie instead.

I will sing a new song to you, O God!
I will sing your praises with a
            ten-stringed harp.
For you grant victory to kings!
      You rescued your servant David
            from the fatal sword.
Save Me!
Rescue me from the power of my enemies.
Their mouths are full of lies;
they swear to tell the truth, but they
            lie instead.

May our sons flourish in their youth
      like well-nurtured plants.
May our daughters be like graceful
      carved to beautify a palace.
May our barns be filled
      with crops of every kind.
May the flocks in our fields multiply
            by the thousands,
      even tens of thousands,
and may our oxen be loaded down
      with produce.
May there be no enemy breaking
            through our walls,
      no going into captivity,
no cries of alarm in our town squares.
Yes, joyful are those who live like this!
Joyful indeed are those whose God
is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.[8]

And so Father God, my first prayer is directed at the leadership within the National Education Association. If the Good News we offer is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of You.[9] We are human but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use Your mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing You. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.[10] And we do so under the authority of Christ so Satan will not outsmart us, for we are familiar with his evil schemes.[11]

Lord with all humility, I pray. With expectations, I pray. With anticipation, I pray. And with faith, I pray in the name of Jesus, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Amen.
